SHELDON, Mo. (AP) - Two people are dead after an elderly woman drove on the wrong side of Interstate 49 in southwest Missouri and collided head-on with an oncoming car.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says 92-year-old Dorothy Cross of Sheldon was driving north in the southbound lanes of the interstate north of Sheldon when she collided with a car driven by 57-year-old Douglas Young of Mullen, Nebraska, at 1:32 p.m. Sunday.

Cross and Young were killed in the crash. Three passengers in Young’s vehicle were transported to a Joplin hospital with serious injuries.
