VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) - Divers have recovered the body of a man who drowned after jumping into a Vancouver pond to retrieve a child’s hat.

The Clark County sheriff’s office said Thursday that 42-year-old Pioneer Anastaco Kelulau of Vancouver was found in about 30 feet of water. He had jumped off a fishing dock at Klineline pond to retrieve the hat Wednesday when he called out for help and sank about 50 feet from shore.

A second family member went into the water but had difficulty swimming because of the cold water.
