FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - Fort Wayne firefighters used a rescue boat with an outboard engine to catch an unmanned runaway construction barge before it could hit a dam on the St. Joseph River.

The Journal Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/VJduTd ) the fire department was called to the scene about 2:30 p.m. Thursday after a was a barge loaded with concrete and metal that broke free from an upriver construction site.

Their firefighters a rope and tow the boat toward the Coliseum Boulevard bridge near Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne where the barge was secured.
