CONWAY, Ark. (AP) - Central Arkansas’ football team begins fall practice Saturday under new coach Steve Campbell.

The Bears are returning 19 starters this season, including 17 seniors. It will be the team’s first season under Campbell, who was hired to replace longtime coach Clint Conque.

Campbell came to Central Arkansas from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, where he compiled a record of 88-22 over 10 seasons.

Central Arkansas opens its season on the road Aug. 30 at Texas Tech. That’s the first of 11 straight weekends before the team’s only open date on Nov. 15.

Campbell says he will work on the team’s strength and conditioning to prepare for the long stretch of games.
