HORN LAKE, Miss. (AP) - Horn Lake has hired election consultant Daniel N. Klein to handle the Aug. 12 special election to fill a seat on the Board of Aldermen.

The seat is being vacated by Chris Sheley.

The board hired Klein Tuesday evening for $1,400 to handle printing ballots, delivering election equipment and other details of the election.

The Commercial Appeal reports (https://bit.ly/1ruL5Nq ) that Sheley said Wednesday he had to step down because he’s retiring from his full-time job in the office of District Attorney John Champion. He said the state’s Public Employees’ Retirement System would not let him serve as an elected official while collecting benefits from the retirement system.
