CAMPTON, Ky. (AP) - Search crews ended efforts to find a reported missing person in Red River Gorge after failing to locate anyone after nearly 12 hours.

WKYT-TV in Lexington reported (https://bit.ly/1j5pl8D ) that several hikers reported hearing yells Thursday evening in Wolfe County, but didn’t see anyone.

Crews searched the Bison Way Trail Head area until about 2 a.m. Friday, but did not find anyone. Searchers found a vehicle in a nearby parking lot, but no sign of the driver.

The search resumed around 10:00 a.m. Friday, but was called off around 1:30 p.m. when nobody was found. The vehicle spotted Thursday night was also gone when search crews returned to check it out Friday afternoon.

Search and rescue officials say they’ll return to the area if someone is reported missing.
