FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) - A grand jury in Fairbanks has indicted an 18-year-old man on charges of murder, manslaughter and arson in connection with a fatal January apartment fire.

The Fairbanks District Attorney’s office said Thursday Connor Groppel was ordered by the court to be held without bail after the indictment was returned Wednesday. Coppel was already in the custody of the Department of Corrections on other charges at the time.

The Jan. 29 fire destroyed a two-story building in west Fairbanks with apartments, offices and a secondhand furniture store. The bodies of 50-year-old Jane Connolly and 39-year-old Kristina Pence were found in the rubble in the following days.

The indictment includes charges of first-degree murder, first-degree arson, manslaughter, burglary and evidence tampering.
