NEPTUNE CITY, N.J. (AP) - A police officer escaped injury when an alleged drunken driver sideswiped his parked cruiser.

Neptune City authorities tell the Asbury Park Press (https://on.app.com/1s9UdVn ) that Patrolman Thomas Holmstedt had stopped another vehicle shortly before the crash occurred around 2:50 a.m. Friday. At the time, he was sitting in the cruiser and its emergency lights were flashing.

Authorities say 24-year-old Amber Bellaus of Raritan was driving the car that hit Holmstedt’s cruiser. They say she didn’t stop at the scene, but the officer pursued the vehicle and stopped it a short time later.

Bellaus was charged with drunken driving and received several motor vehicle tickets. A telephone number for Bellaus could not be located Friday, and it was not known if she had retained a lawyer.
