SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Authorities say three people are dead after a driver going the wrong way on Interstate 80 crashed head on into another vehicle in Tooele County.

The Utah Highway Patrol says the driver of a westbound pickup truck Friday night inexplicably turned around and drove the wrong way and collided head-on with an SUV.

The Deseret News reports (https://bit.ly/1vIjsOF ) that three occupants of the SUV were killed, including an adult female, a teenager and an infant.

The pickup driver and the male drive of the SUV were both taken to a local hospital with serious but nonlife-threatening injuries.

The crash occurred about 30 miles east of Wendover and closed the westbound highway for several hours and created a miles-long backup as holiday motorists waited alongside their cars on the freeway.
