OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Officials say gunfire on the 4th of July may have caused a power line in Oakland to fall, electrocuting one man and critically injuring a second.

The Oakland Police Department said that officers received a call at 11:35 p.m. Friday reporting gunshots in the area of Birch Street and 89th Avenue.

Officers say they found two unresponsive men and the downed power line between them.

PG&E; spokeswoman Jana Morris says it appears that gunfire cause the power line to fall. A PG&E; crew shut off power, but because of the high amount of gunfire waited until daylight Saturday to make repairs.

Police say 19-year-old Jermaine Tarver was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, and 19-year-old Tresylian Redd remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition.
