FALKLAND, N.C. (AP) - Authorities say they have found the body of a 51-year-old man who disappeared as he swam in the Tar River in Pitt County.

Rescuers said Kenneth Skaggs was swimming with his family near Falkland around 4:30 p.m. Friday when he dove off a ramp.

Family members say they saw him come up and start swimming. When they turned back around, Skaggs had gone under.

Firefighters and a dive team looked for Skaggs until sundown Friday and started the search again at dawn Saturday. His body was found just before noon.

Authorities say the Tar River was flowing fast and rising quickly after recent rains.
