AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - The Fourth of July is over but Maine law enforcement agencies are continuing stepped-up traffic enforcement through the weekend.

The holiday weekend marks the beginning of the busiest time of the year on Maine roads.

Col. Robert Williams, the state police chief, said troopers are looking for aggressive, drunk and distracted drivers, speeders and those not wearing seat belts.

Williams said the additional enforcement efforts will continue through the summer as July and August are Maine’s deadliest months for traffic crashes.
