WARREN, N.J. (AP) - State Police say a trooper escaped serious injury when his cruiser went off a northern New Jersey highway and overturned.

Clarence Turner was westbound on Route 78 in Warren when the accident occurred around 8 a.m. Thursday.

Authorities tell NJ.com (https://bit.ly/1om2NOm) that another car suddenly pulled in front of Turner’s vehicle, and he swerved into the left shoulder in an attempt to avoid a collision. But he lost control of his cruiser and it went into the grassy median, where it overturned.

Turner was taken to a hospital as a precaution and was later released. The other car had left the scene by the time authorities arrived on scene.

The accident remains under investigation.
