TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Police in Tuscaloosa say officers shot a man after he shot another man and pointed a gun at officers.

Tuscaloosa police said in a news release that officers patrolling downtown around 12:50 a.m. Saturday saw what appeared to be a fight in front of a bar.

Police say the officers saw 27-year-old Lakendrick Warren Prewitt pull out a handgun and shoot a 20-year-old man. Police say Prewitt pointed the gun at officers when they identified themselves. The officers then shot Prewitt.

Prewitt was taken into custody and was treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Prewitt faces various charges, including attempted murder. It wasn’t immediately clear whether he had a lawyer.

The 20-year-old man was shot twice and was being treated for serious injuries.

The shootings are still under investigation.
