BELLE CHASSE, La. (AP) - The Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating two possible accidental drownings in three days.

Cmdr. Eric J. Becnel says autopsies of both 21-year-old Shawn Meladine and 57-year-old Edward Cortez are pending toxicology results.

Both were from Belle Chasse.

Becnel says people at a Fourth of July party found Meladine’s body in a swimming pool about 1:15 a.m. Saturday.

He says Cortez was reported missing Wednesday evening after he failed to bring a boat and trailer from the Hero Canal to his house. Friends found the boat about 1,000 east of Walker Road boat launch, but they could not find him.

Sheriff’s deputies searched until 1:20 a.m. Thursday, then resumed the search at 6 a.m. Thursday. Cortez’s body was found that afternoon.

Becnel says there was no sign of trauma.
