COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah (AP) - A 7-year-old boy drowned Sunday afternoon in a public outdoor pool in the Salt Lake City area.

Police say a swimmer notified lifeguards at the Cottonwood Heights Recreation Center pool after seeing the boy underwater.

The lifeguards brought the boy out of the pool and tried to revive him with the help of two off-duty nurses who happened to be there.

The boy was taken to Intermountain Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Police were unsure how long the boy was underwater.
