BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) - A man police say fired at a restaurant employee during a robbery attempt Sunday morning in Billings and then fired at a police officer has been taken into custody.

Billings Police Chief Rich St. John tells the Billing Gazette (https://bit.ly/1zieM70) that no one was injured during the incident along Main Street at about 8 a.m.

St. John says a Sonic employee had gone to a grocery store for supplies when a man in a vehicle asked for money. The employee ran.

St. John says officer Shane Weinreis was nearby and heard what he thought was fireworks and went to investigate, and saw the employee running away from the suspect.

Weinreis intercepted the suspect and the two exchanged gunfire. St. John says the suspect’s gun jammed and that Weinreis tackled him.

The man’s name hasn’t been released.
