BREAUX BRIDGE, La. (AP) - A pedestrian in St. Martin Parish may have discovered human remains.

The St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office tells The Advertiser (https://bit.ly/1jasl3x) that a walker called 911 about 2 p.m. Friday to report the remains, found in an area off Leland Road.

Investigators recovered the remains and will send them to the LSU Forensics Anthropology and Computer Enhancement Services Laboratory for further verification. They say it appears the remains had been present for an extended period of time.

Officials say an investigation is ongoing but expect no further information until lab results are available.
