LA JOYA, Texas (AP) - The Texas Department of Public Safety has identified two people from the Rio Grande Valley as victims killed in a wreck as they were fleeing from authorities who tried to pull them over for a traffic stop.

Authorities subsequently found bundles of marijuana in the trunk of the car being pursued.

Troopers say 21-year-old Osiel Figueroa, of Weslaco, was the driver and 24-year-old Pamela Mariscal, of Elsa, the passenger in the weekend crash in Hidalgo County.

Authorities say their car collided with another vehicle that was getting on U.S. Highway 83.

Public Safety Sgt. Johnny Hernandez tells The Monitor of McAllen (https://bit.ly/1j8cX7r ) four people in the second vehicle were hurt in the crash. One woman remains hospitalized.
