ST. JOSEPH TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Three people were hurt in a fireworks accident outside a southwestern Michigan home.

Police in St. Joseph Township say a 20-year-old Benton Harbor man lost his left eye; a 31-year-old Benton Harbor man lost two fingers on his right hand; and a 20-year-old Covert man suffered a ruptured eardrum.

The men’s names were not released. The fireworks mishap happened late Friday night.

According to police, one of the men improperly lit a rocket that had a short fuse. The other two were standing nearby.

Katherine Kasischke, who lives two doors away, told The Herald-Palladium of St. Joseph on Saturday (https://bit.ly/1rGWjyL ) that she “saw a big white light, a glow, then a big boom, and it shook the ground.”

Police and ambulances arrived minutes later.
