5 injured in boat crash on Lake Allatoona, operator arrested on drunk boating charge

WHITE, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say five people, including a 4-month-old child, were injured in a boat crash on Lake Allatoona in Bartow County.

Georgia Department of Natural Resources spokesman Mark McKinnon says the crash was reported Saturday night near the mouth of Illinois Creek after a fireworks show at the Allatoona Yacht Club.

Officials say the injuries were non-life threatening and the occupants of the boat were taken to the Cartersville Medical Center.

McKinnon says witnesses told authorities a ski boat hit the other vessel from behind. The ski boat traveled up and over the second vessel, causing significant damage.

McKinnon says the operator of the ski boat was arrested and charged with boating under the influence.

The boater’s name hasn’t been released and the crash is under investigation.
