SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - Shreveport police say a 24-year-old man is accused of killing a cabbie whose vehicle then crashed into an apartment building.

Cpl. Marcus Hines says Reginald Williams faces a charge of second-degree murder in the death Saturday evening of 38-year-old Carlos Jenkins.

He said in a news release that Williams was in police custody Sunday at a hospital, being treated for a broken leg that he apparently suffered in the crash.

It was not clear whether Williams had an attorney.

Hines says witnesses told police that a man had run from the wrecked taxi. Investigators found Williams on the ground nearby. Police also found a handgun in a nearby trash bin.

Police say Jenkins apparently had been shot in the head, possibly during an attempt to rob him.
