CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Democrat Nick Casey is maintaining more than a 2-to-1 cash edge over Republican Alex Mooney in the race for West Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District.

Mooney reported raising about $432,000 compared with Casey’s $332,000 haul in the last reporting period.

Casey has $873,000 in the bank for his bid against Mooney, who has $352,000 cash on hand.

The campaigns announced the fundraising totals Monday. Casey included $20,400 that he had previously reported in April.

Casey is the former West Virginia Democratic Party chairman. In Maryland, Mooney served as state Republican Party chairman and as a state senator.

Both are vying for a district stretching from the state’s western border on the Ohio River to the Eastern Panhandle.

Republican Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito is vacating the seat to run for U.S. Senate.
