BARABOO, Wis. (AP) - A baby sitter convicted in Sauk County of killing an infant in her care has asked a judge for leniency.

Jeanette Janusiak has written a letter to the sentencing judge, Patrick Taggart, asking for the possibility of parole at the earliest date allowed under the law.

The 27-year-old Reedsburg woman insists she was wrongly convicted of first-degree intentional homicide in the death of Payten Rain Shearer, the 4-month-old daughter of her best friend. Janusiak will be sentenced July 14.

The Baraboo News Republic (https://bit.ly/1tg3Bes ) says Janusiak told the judge she will continue to proclaim her innocence and believes “the truth will one day prevail.”
