BELO HORIZONTE, Brazil (AP) - Germany coach Joachim Loew has expressed his regret that Brazil star Neymar will miss the World Cup semifinal between the two teams on Tuesday.

Loew tells the German football federation’s website that Neymar is a “great player” and that “it’s bitter and a great misfortune that he has to be absent now,” for “himself, his team, the entire nation.”

Neymar is out after breaking a vertebra in the quarterfinal against Colombia.

Loew says he wishes Neymar a speedy recovery, adding that people want to see “the best players” at the World Cup. He said it was also unfortunate for Brazil to be without captain Thiago Silva, who is suspended.

Loew believes Brazil will be able to compensate for their absence.
