GLADSTONE, Ore. (AP) - Police who heard gunfire inside a Gladstone, Oregon, home when they arrived to check on a person’s welfare say officers have found a man dead inside of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Milwaukie Officer Ulli Neitch says Gladstone police initially backed off after hearing the gunfire Monday. A tactical negotiation team was called from nearby Washington County. Officers entered the home Monday afternoon.

The man was not identified. Neitch says a caller had asked police to check on the man.

Traffic was briefly restricted in the area.

Gladstone is south of Portland.
