PHOENIX (AP) - A Mesa man is in custody following a ground search in Phoenix after a driver rammed a state Department of Public Safety officer’s patrol car.

DPS spokesman Bart Graves says 23-year-old George Glockner was arrested sitting in a parked car near warehouses where the hourslong search had just concluded.

According to Graves, the incident began Monday morning when the DPS officer on an Interstate 17 frontage road pulled over a pickup with a suspended license plate.

The DPS spokesman says the driver reversed his truck and struck the officer’s car. The officer fired at the pickup but it left the scene.

It was found about a mile away in the warehouse district and the search began, resulting in evacuation of multiple businesses.

Graves says the officer was not seriously injured.
