ELIZABETHTOWN, N.C. (AP) - Investigators say the theft of a police car in Elizabethtown led to a police chase in two counties in southeastern North Carolina.

WECT-TV reported (https://bit.ly/1qbaRT7 ) a male suspect was taken into custody after the chase Sunday.

The N.C. Highway Patrol says the man had been in handcuffs in custody of the Elizabethtown Police Department when he managed to steal a police car.

Bladen County sheriff’s deputies and state troopers chased the car. The driver was returned to the custody of the Elizabethtown Police Department. His name has not been released.
