NORMAN, Okla. (AP) - University of Oklahoma quarterback Trevor Knight has been named to the watch list for the Maxwell Award that is given to the player selected as the top college football player in the country.

The Maxwell Football Club announced the 78-man watch list on Monday. Semifinalists will be announced in November, while the winner will be named on Dec. 11.

Knight will be a sophomore after starting five games for the Sooners last season as a redshirt freshman.

He was named MVP of the Sugar Bowl after throwing for four touchdowns and 348 yards in a win over Alabama.

Alabama’s A.J. McCarron won the Maxwell Award last year.
