BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Police in Burlington are hoping to check on the welfare of a man they say jumped off a ferry into Lake Champlain over the weekend.

Police said the man jumped about 11 p.m. Saturday, close to shore. The Burlington Free Press reports (https://bfpne.ws/1odFFQO) police, fire, and U.S. Coast Guard officers responded, but were unable to find the man to check on him.

The man was described as a white male in his late 20s or early 30s about 6 feet tall, medium build, and wearing a light-colored shirt. Police said they received multiple reports that the man made it to shore and ran off.
