DENHAM SPRINGS, La. (AP) - Louisiana State Police say a 22-year-old man driving without a seat belt was thrown from his car and killed when it overturned, hit a tree and rolled into a canal. Trooper Jared Sandifer says the man’s 16-year-old passenger was wearing a seat belt and survived, though with serious injuries.

Sandifer says investigators believe speed was a factor in the wreck that killed Cameron Bordelon of Baton Rouge. He says toxicology analysis is incomplete.

Bordelon’s 2005 Toyota Corolla hit the raised center concrete median on Louisiana Highway 16 south of Louisiana Highway 1028 in Livingston Parish, then ran off the highway to the right.

The 16-year-old was taken to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital.
