NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The Nashville Predators have signed defenseman Anton Volchenkov to a one-year contract worth $1 million.

In a team release Monday announcing the move, Predators general manager David Poile said that Volchenkov “is a physical, left-handed shooting defenseman who can match up with top-line forwards and effectively kill penalties.”

The 32-year-old Volchenkov had eight assists in 56 games last season for the New Jersey Devils. Volchenkov had played for the Devils since 2010. Before coming to New Jersey, Volchenkov played in Ottawa from 2002-10.

Volchenkov has 19 goals and 107 assists in 650 career regular-season games. Volchenkov has reached the playoffs seven times in 11 NHL seasons.
