SHERIDAN, Wyo. (AP) - Sheridan Mayor Dave Kinskey will fill the Wyoming State Senate seat left vacant by the death last month of Sen. John Schiffer.

Schiffer, a Republican from Kaycee who had served as senate president, died June 19.

The Sheridan Press reports Sheridan and Johnson county commissions met in a special joint session on Monday to select Schiffer’s senate replacement from among three finalists chosen last week by a selection committee.

Kinskey says his first job will be to call Senate President Tony Ross of Cheyenne and ask whether Ross wants him to continue with Schiffer’s committee work on the Judiciary and Transportation Committees.

The Sheridan City Council will appoint of its own members to serve as mayor to fill Kinskey’s post until the next general election.
