CONWAY, Mass. (AP) - Authorities say a woman who went missing while tubing on the Deerfield River in Conway is presumed drowned.

Conway Fire Chief Robert Baker says six or seven people were tubing immediately below TransCanada’s Deerfield Number 2 hydro plant dam on Sunday evening when one woman was drawn into a vortex or fell off her tube.

The missing woman’s name was not made public, but Baker tells The Recorder (https://bit.ly/1zjxlYr ) of Greenfield that she is about 26 years old and from out of state.

The search is expected to resume Monday.

Although using inner tubes to float down Franklin County rivers is a popular summertime activity, Baker says the area where the woman went missing is not common for tubing and dangerous because of the turbulent water.
