BAYTOWN, Texas (AP) - Authorities say three people were injured when their single-engine plane crashed in a Houston-area park shortly after takeoff.

The extent of the injuries to the three aboard the plane was not immediately known following the wreck Monday evening in Baytown, east of Houston. They were taken to a hospital for treatment.

Authorities were working Tuesday to determine what caused the Cessna 172 to plunge to the ground after departing a Baytown airport.

The wreckage of the four-seat plane, built in 1966, remained in the park Tuesday. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.

FAA records show the plane is owned by a Baytown man.
