CARLSBAD, N.M. (AP) - Eddy County inmates are no longer being confined in Roosevelt County.

The Carlsbad Current Argus (https://bit.ly/1zn4Mct) reports that all 26 Eddy County inmates who were being housed at the Roosevelt County detention center have been returned in the wake of a murder defendant’s short-lived escape.

The transfer followed a Wednesday incident in which authorities say 32-year-old Senovio “Hoss” Mendoza allegedly assaulted a county employee before leading law enforcement officers on a chase from Portales to Sudan, Texas.

Roosevelt County officials said they weren’t told by Eddy County that Mendoza hadn’t yet been tried in the 2012 killing of Artesia resident Tim Wallace.
