GUILDERLAND, N.Y. (AP) - State police have charged a 24-year-old upstate New York man who was behind the wheel during a crash that killed two passengers on the state Thruway.

Tyler Pascuzzi of Coxsackie faces charges of aggravated vehicular homicide, vehicular manslaughter, driving while intoxicated, and reckless driving. He was arrested Tuesday after being released from a hospital.

Troopers say Pascuzzi was speeding late Friday night when his car caromed off another car and slammed into a tractor-trailer. The collision between exits for Albany and Schenectady split Pascuzzi’s Volkswagen in half and killed 23-year-old Cody Veverka of Cairo and 24-year-old Alicia Tamboia of Wingdale.

The truck driver wasn’t injured. The operator of the other car, 29-year-old Brian Miller of Schenectady, suffered injuries that aren’t life-threatening.

A fourth car also was damaged.
