NEWBURGH, N.Y. (AP) - Weather delays and additional construction will keep the pedestrian walkway on a bridge spanning the mid-Hudson River closed to through passage until Labor Day.

The New York State Bridge Authority announced early last month that the walkway on the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge would be partially closed to pedestrians and bicyclists Monday through Friday because of ongoing repairs on the span that carries Interstate 84.

The agency hoped to have the work completed by July 4. It now says the walkway will be closed for through passage on weekdays through the month of August.

Until then, access is limited to dawn to dusk and only as far as the construction allows.

The walkway will be open on weekends during normal dawn to dusk operations hours.
