ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) - Authorities have cited a York mother after police say she left her three children in an unlocked car, despite leaving the air conditioning on and asking a friend to watch them.

The Herald of Rock Hill reports (https://bit.ly/1jmFabg) concerned shoppers called police after noticing two boys, ages 1 and 3, and a 2-year-old girl, sleeping in the back of a running car parked at a Rock Hill grocery store.

Police said when officers arrived on Monday, the mother explained she went into the store to get medicine for the youngest child after he burned his hand on a stove at home. Also, police said the friend watching the car was about 20 feet away in another car.

The woman was cited for cruelty to children.
