WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) - Police say someone has stolen the Seahawk statue from the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

The bronze statue in front of the Warwick Center was reported missing Saturday morning. University spokeswoman Tara Romanella says campus police think it was stolen Friday night or early Saturday morning.

The university hired sculptor Joe Orlando to make the 3-foot, 75-pound statue in 1998. It cost about $37,000.

The statue also was taken in 2003. It was found several days later in a stairwell of an apartment complex. No one was charged then.

University police are reviewing video from an outside camera near the statue to try to identify the thief.
