TONAWANDA, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities have charged a woman with beating her 89-year-old husband to death inside their western New York home.

Police in the town of Tonawanda tell local media that 83-year-old Phyllis Eson was arrested late Monday afternoon after officers contacted by the couple’s landlord checked out their home the previous night.

Officials say the woman had blood on her clothes when she answered the door. They say her husband was found dead on a floor. An autopsy determined he died from blows to his head.

Phyllis Eson is being held at the Erie County Jail. She’s scheduled to be arraigned Monday on a second-degree murder charge. Court officials say she does not yet have a lawyer.

Police say a motive hasn’t been determined.
