COMPTON, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a woman riding a bicycle was killed and a man was wounded when an attacker in a passing car opened fire on a Compton street.

The Los Angeles Times reports (https://lat.ms/1n3FTZr) the shooting was reported around 1 p.m. Monday on West Cherry Street.

Sheriff’s officials say both victims were taken to a hospital, where the woman was pronounced dead. The condition of the man was not released, but he remained hospitalized late Monday.

Investigators say a group of people were in a driveway at a home when the dark-colored vehicle drove by and someone inside shot at the man, hitting him in the torso.

The woman was riding the bike in front of the home when she was struck by a round.

Detectives have not named a motive.
