BECKLEY, W.Va. (AP) - A West Virginia program is receiving part of more than $83 million in federal funding to support the recruitment and retention of primary care physicians

The Teaching Health Center Program expands residency training in community-based settings like Community Health Systems in Beckley.

The program trains doctors in family and internal medicine, among other medical disciplines.

Community Health Systems is being awarded a $1.65 million grant as part of the program.

Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Mathews Burwell says the program will help prepare more physicians to provide primary care in communities across the country.
