LANSING, Mich. (AP) - City Council has signed off on a $23 million plan to improve the Lansing Lugnuts’ stadium that includes 80 or more apartments beyond the outfield fence.

The Lansing State Journal reports (https://on.lsj.com/1xD98LH ) city officials say work on “The Outfield” project at Cooley Law School Stadium could begin this fall and be finished in time for opening day in 2016. City Council approved the project Monday.

The city and private developers will essentially split the cost of the project.

The development plan calls for a four-story apartment building rising above the outfield fence, with a year-round restaurant on the first floor. It also includes a new roof on the stadium and remodeled restrooms, concessions stands, seating and suites.

The Lugnuts are a Class A team affiliated with the Toronto Blue Jays.
