PITTSBURGH (AP) - A 13-year-old Pennsylvania boy has died from injuries he suffered in a backyard zip line accident.

The Allegheny County medical examiner’s office says Rex Smith of McCandless Township died Tuesday from injuries he suffered on June 8 while at a friend’s house. McCandless is about 10 miles north of Pittsburgh.

Officials say the zip line was homemade and suspended about four feet off the ground between two trees. Smith was injured when a fastener pulled loose and hit him in the back of the head.

The death has been ruled an accident.
