DECATUR, Ala. (AP) - A woman who pleaded guilty to setting her Hartselle home on fire with her daughter inside was given a suspended 10-year prison sentence.

The Decatur Daily (https://bit.ly/1qtly3Y ) reports 54-year-old Bridget Owens Easterly was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty March 5 to first-degree arson.

Easterly told the judge she suffered from bipolar disorder and was on the wrong medication and feeling paranoid when she set fire to the home in 2011. Authorities say Easterly’s 16-year-old daughter was asleep in the home at the time.

Easterly’s attorney said her client has received proper care and isn’t a danger to the public.

The judge said he didn’t believe putting her in prison would be effective. But he told her that if she gets in trouble again she will serve the time in prison.
