ISLANDIA, N.Y. (AP) - A Long Island prosecutor says he’s concerned about widespread ground contamination after finding toxins at a third site in recent weeks.

Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said Wednesday that testing has found banned pesticides including DDT and hazardous levels of lead and other metals in soil at an Islandia neighborhood for war veterans.

Spota says the results were similar to earlier findings at a Brentwood park and a Central Islip (EYE’-slihp) lot. All three locations are within the Town of Islip.

Spota says residents are upset and the toxins will be removed.

He says an investigation into how the material wound up there is ongoing.

The head of the local water company says supplies are continually tested and have not shown signs of contamination.
