NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (AP) - Parents of three of five teenagers killed in a fiery crash in Newport Beach are suing the city and the family of the driver, who was among the dead.

The Orange County Register (https://bit.ly/1v0RX4v ) reports Wednesday that parents of 17-year-old Cecilia Zamora, 16-year-old Aurora Cabrera and 17-year-old Robin Cabrera have filed wrongful death lawsuits alleging reckless driving and unsafe road conditions.

City Attorney Aaron Harp says the deaths were tragic, but the city’s roads are “perfectly fine.” The city denied legal claims by the families in December.

The unlicensed driver, 17-year-old Abdulrahman Alyahyan, was speeding when his Infiniti G35 plowed into a tree, split in half and caught fire, killing everyone inside.

Neither the Register nor The Associated Press could reach his family for comment.
