GILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) - Gillette city officials are warning the public to stay out of Fishing Lake because of high water that occasionally spills over onto a street.

The reservoir is in a city park in south Gillette.

The Gillette News Record reported Tuesday (https://tinyurl.com/nr5mn2c ) weekend rain filled the lake to overflowing.

Officials say it’s not uncommon for the lake to overflow.

The city plans to dredge the lake next year, removing sediment that has made the reservoir shallower.

A city spokesman says shallow water is more prone to warming up, which is hard on fish and can encourage bacteria.
