CLEAR LAKE, Iowa (AP) - The city of Clear Lake, two state parks and a Fareway grocery store in Clear Lake have joined to buy and install seven park benches made of recycled plastic.

The Mason City Globe Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1kjU5fP ) three of the benches were placed at Fieldstone Park in Clear Lake and four were installed at McIntosh Wood and Clear Lake state parks.

The benches were purchased with a $1,806 grant from the Build With Bags program, an effort sponsored by the Iowa Grocery Industry Association. The program is intended to encourage officials at parks and schools to buy furniture and equipment made from recycled plastic.

The benches were manufactured by Plastic Recycling Inc. in Iowa Falls. The company says each bench uses about 10,600 plastic bags.
